The Schools of the Future Committee of the National Association of Independent Schools Commission on Accreditation has created a list of 7 essential abilities that students should demonstrate as a result of their education.  The faculty and administrative staff at Highland Prep are dedicated to guiding students to the realization of all of these invaluable scholastic goals.  As can be seen, these skills are indispensable for the development of life-long learners and contributing world citizens.  As is evident in our class outlines and syllabi, the curriculum at HPS has been constructed to meet these rigorous standards:

Highlands Preparatory School Opening Fall 2011


Families searching for a competitive, college preparatory residential boarding school will have a new school to consider when Highlands Preparatory School opens its doors for the 2011-2012 school year.  Offering the best of both worlds, Highlands Prep is structured to accommodate day students, full-time boarding students or weekday students.  Located on 200 acres, 75 miles north of Atlanta in Dahlonega, Georgia, Highlands Prep will offer the comfort and familiarity of a small town community along with its close proximity to the cultural and educational resources a major metropolitan area can offer.

Highlands Prep is positioned to become a regional destination for families looking for a school environment for a child eager to test their independence and begin to manage their educational odyssey.  Catering to students grades 8-12, the school is designed to maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio enabling Highlands Prep’s academic department to thoroughly assess the abilities of the incoming student and place them in the appropriate class on the proper academic path.  By providing a challenging and rewarding college preparatory curriculum, Highlands Prep will establish itself as an institution dedicated to the development of life-long learners fully prepared for the demands of the 21st century.  The curriculum will feature individualized, structured course work designed to play to the strengths and address areas of opportunities for each student.

Highlands Prep will provide the outstanding student with multiple paths to achievement beyond the classroom and grade level.  Challenging accelerated honors courses along with access to on-line, accredited college courses through the University of Nebraska, taught by university level instructors, facilitated by Highlands Prep faculty, will provide valuable credit toward a college degree.   SAT courses will be built into the curriculum and Highlands Prep will also feature a Learning Center to accommodate students requiring additional support in a given subject.

A two-semester professional development/leadership course will be offered to provide exposure to the skills and competencies required to be successful in a chosen profession.  In addition to excellent academics, Highlands Prep will offer a competitive sports program where everyone makes the team. 

The Adventure Enrichment activities available each week will complement the school’s strong focus on Environmental Science offerings.
